WHAT IS CASTILE LIQUID SOAP?

Castile liquid soap is an all-vegetable oil based soap. It is named for Castile, Spain, where it is known for its olive oil. Previously, Castile bar soap was made with olive oil and animal fat. Now, liquid and solid forms of Castile soap are made with vegetable oils including palm, coconut, olive, and hemp.

ABOUT:

Dr. Jacobs was a Swiss chemist that perfected the long-standing Castilian tradition of making Jabon de Castilla or Castile soap before the turn of the 19th century. Today, they still use the same recipes and work to uphold the long-standing tradition of making natural Castile Soap products.

The company Dr. Jacobs was created by Joey and Ezra Aini in the spring 2011. Familiar with cosmetics and skincare from other brands they have launched, they are answering the call of demand from customers for a multi-purpose natural soap product.

My Thoughts:

I prefer to buy as much organic, natural, and/or NON-GMO products for my family to use. The Dr Jacobs Naturals Soap brand fits my lifestyle very well. I simply adore these soaps, because they make my skin, and hair feel clean without stripping away natural oils. Skin and hair feels soft, and well moisturized, and the scent of these soaps are absolutely amazing. I have no need to use a hair conditioner with this castile soap. My curls feel soft and look defined.

A little of this soap goes a long way, making it a good buy for the money. There are so many different ways to use it from body care to household cleaning, laundry, dish soap, and even for washing pets. It works wonders for a horse wash. I’m can’t wait to buy some of the other scents.

I received a pack of 3 sachets for making Balkin style plain yogurt. Each packet contains freeze dried culture, and each one is enough to make 7 jars in my yogurt maker.

I’ve always wanted to try my hand at making my own yogurt, and this seemed like the perfect time to do it. The price of ready made yogurt can get expensive, and making my own gives me the opportunity to add fruits, nuts, or whatever I want to the finished product.

Why bother making yogurt at home? Well, homemade yogurt is so good tasting, very cheap to make, and not very difficult to do.

I used a yogurt maker,  and followed the directions on the yogurtathome website.

1. Heat/boil 1L or about 1 US liquid quart (for USA)of milk to 65°C (149°F)degrees.

2. Leave it for about 30-45 minutes until the milk cools down to (104 F -113 F).

3. Add the content of the sachet and mix very well. The sides of container should feel warm to touch, but not hot.

4. Pour the mixture in sterilized jars and incubate (104 F – 113F). Do not stir or shake. I let this batch incubate for 12 hours.

5. After yogurt is cooked, add lids, and refrigerate.

My very first batch came out great. I poured the contents of one jar in a bowl, and added some chopped strawberries! This is a very nice treat! I’m looking forward to making the next batch.
